GET LOST!

Oh poor Yunjin Kim. Cute as you may be, you fell into my camera like a deer stuck in headlights. Don’t fret. You are way too cute to worry about that. And I moved very pretty pictures of you.

Tonight was the premiere of the last season of ABC’s Lost, a program I’ve never seen. Yet I had a small part on the show and was asked back for a multi day part.

I sadly had to turn the part down only because the pay was so low ($75/day or something like that) and a day could last 24 hours. Yo, thats not for me. In the above shot, I was a (of all things) a cameraman. HA!

Anyway, the red carpet took place in Waikiki and all the stars strutted down the catwalk, priming and posing all the way. It was a fun evening and in my line of work, its amazing I can show up in sandals.

Ah, life is way too fun.

New cover…yummy food.

Food…I eat it, I trained to shoot it, but I never do. Well, that isn’t exactly true as I did shoot lots of Honolulu restaurants for a national guide book yet the way I trained…8×10 or 4×5 camera, food stylist, props, etc…just don’t translate to shooting food the way I see it and the way my clients like it done…quickly.

Yet, food shooters like Ric Cohn and Dick Frank really knew their stuff and because of them, I do understand how food should shot.

The cover of Modern Luxury wasn’t my favorite shot of the series as I had a different vision…

but looking at how the art direction was done at the end of the day, I realize they had the right shot. It is dynamic and really does stand out. And like I said, for never really shooting food, I didn’t do too bad.

I also got to shoot a few chefs and Chef Kobayashi over at Cafe Miro was a fun quick shot. The shot was the opener in the recent Modern Luxury issue.

Modern Luxury Spring Cover

What a nightmare this shot!!!

I can’t stress it more. I mean the condo we shot at, the company, the editor, and all were great. But the weather just didn’t cooperate. I tried for this shot like four days over two weeks plus! The clouds would bunch up and give a drab sunset. We finally got lucky but the rains were just lurking over the mountains. I could feel the rain slightly falling on the outdoor lanai up on the 38th floor.

Thanks Dr. and Mrs Gallardo for letting Emmy and I abuse your place!

Thanks Emmy…its a great shot!
